Do you love what you do?

Choosing the right career is a struggle for most but then there are also those who have been in their industry for many years and still feel that either they didn’t choose the right career for them or that they feel burnt out from what they are doing.

There was a time when I experienced the same thing, so I understand how you feel.

The long hours…

I totally get that.  You may have experienced feeling like wanting to quit your job along the way or maybe even now. My advice to you is to plan ahead and think long and hard about what you really want to do in life. If what you are doing is providing a steady paycheck but zapping out all of your energy, then that’s a sure sign that you really need to transition to something that will make you happy and provide you with a stable income.

I don’t say this because it might seem that it’s easy for me to do because I’ve already established a firm.

No. Not at all.

Once upon a time I was in the same situation as you. I used to work hours on end just to build a good case and win, succeed and make a client happy, but at the end I became so tired, so cynical and so depressed that I even forgot about my own happiness. My own satisfaction and my family were the deciding factors of why I decided to quit my previous job and launch a virtual firm on my own. It afforded me an opportunity to watch my kids grow and at the same time help people that I truly enjoy helping each day.

It wasn’t an easy decision for me to finally cut off those golden handcuffs, but in the long run it was so worth it and there hasn’t been a day that I felt any regrets about my decision.

What makes you happy?

Now, three things you should remember is that:

  1. You need to assess your happiness meter – find out for yourself if you’re still happy with what you’re doing or if you know what makes you happy.
  2. Find your niche – it is important for you to know where you belong for you to be experience pure happiness,.
  3. Always plan what you do – I’m all for planning and although sometimes plans fail, do not be disheartened because the truth is you never really fail – you learn what you need and use that to get back on track.
